Cervelo Aspero: Dynaplug Racer Pro Tubeless Repair Tool

Here is a tool to plug tubeless tires, easily and quickly. I first read about it on CyclingTips, and it seemed so awesome that I have to try it for myself.

My Cervelo Aspero gravel bike uses tubeless tires, and so this tool would be very useful if I ever encounter a larger hole that the sealant is unable to seal automatically.

This is the Dynaplug Racer Pro, which is one of the more expensive version. There are many other versions for road or MTB tires, and so on.

Dynaplug Racer Pro, with 4 tips for quick and repeated usage.

Non-descript black aluminium tube, along with a mini yellow brush to clean the inside of the plug insert when reloading the plugs.

Using it is super easy. Just push in the plug and pull out the tube, done!

The tube opens on both ends, via caps secured by the red O-rings. Note the sharper plug on the left for smaller holes, and the rounder plug on the right for bigger holes.

Each plug is fitted inside a silver screwed-on tube, which screws into the black central tube. Since each silver tube is double ended, you have 4 plugs in total.

The plug is brass tipped, and is connected to the black rubber strip that will plug the hole in the tire.

How the plug works is very simple. The brass tip just makes it easy to push the plug into the hole on the tire. Once in, the tip will catch on the inside of the hole. Therefore, when you pull back on the central tube, the brass tip and the black strip will be left in the tire, plugging up the hole.

After that, the sealant should do the rest of the job and make the seal airtight. You may need to pump up the tire if you have lost too much air, otherwise you can just continue riding.

The Dynaplug Racer Pro weighs only 26 grams!

I previously had this tubeless patch kit, which is of the more traditional kind with separate strips and tools. Double the weight at 53 grams.

The weight difference is not the main advantage. What's really cool is the super slim tube, which can be tucked in anywhere!

Having a tubeless repair kit is like buying insurance, where you purchase it but hope you don't need to use it. In this case, even if I have to use it, it seems easy and quick enough to use.
