Here are some modern bike lights with good connectivity! These are the Lumos Firefly which first launched on Kickstarter. It is very well funded on Kickstarter, and they provide detailed updates. Although the first shipment was slightly delayed, as per expected for almost all Kickstarter projects, it was not a big delay.
What's interesting to me is that the co-founded and CEO of Lumos, Eu-Wen, is based in Singapore. This meant that the backers in Singapore were the first to collect the Lumos lights in person, from a collection party at Kian Hong Cycle at East Coast Park.
Other than the lights, I also ordered other accessories as you can see below.
The lights and accessories are packed in a modular format, which makes it easy to customize the package according to what the user needs.
Includes rubber shims of different angles, rubber straps and velcro straps, for mounting on nearly anywhere you need.
Each light comes with a cradle, which is where you will fix the rubber shims and straps to. The light and cradle are attached to each other magnetically.
Here is the single button on the light, accessible from the side of the cradle.
There are many LEDs positioned in a ring, plus bright LEDs in the center. These will combine to give different colours (red or white) and lighting modes.
On the back of the light is the wireless charging coil. There are no exposed ports on the light for charging, which means excellent waterproofing.
Closer look at the above mentioned cradle. The cradle is needed to attach the light to something, as the light itself does not have any mounting points.
The rubber shim attaches to the bottom of the cradle. Available in different angles to suit different mounting locations on the bike.
Light itself weighs 30 grams.
Cradle is 11 grams
Thick shim for the seat post is 13 grams...
...while the thin shim for the handlebar is only 3 grams.
Rubber strap is just 3 grams
Velcro strap is 5 grams
To attach the light to something, you will need:
Light (30 grams) +
Cradle (11 grams) +
Rubber Shim (3 or 13 grams) +
Strap (3 or 5 grams)
Depending on which parts you use, one unit of light will weigh between 47 grams to 59 grams.
When you need to charge the light, there is no need to undo the strap. The cradle, rubber shim and strap stays on the bike. You only need to detach the light magnetically from the cradle.
The package comes with 1x Charging Cradle, which is used to charge 1 light at a time, wirelessly.
Charging Cradle for charging the Lumos lights. You plug a USB cable into this charging cradle.
Interesting quote molded on the charging cradle...
It comes with an alternative rubber base with legs, in case you want to customize the design a bit.
In the next post, I will show you how the lights work, and other accessories that are available for the light. Also, one strong point of the Lumos Firefly lights is the customizable modes, which are available via the app.
