One of the cool accessories that the Lumos Firefly has is the Quad Charging Mat. The original Charging Cradle can only charge 1 light at a time, which is troublesome as I would usually charge at least 2 lights at one go.
With the Quad Charging Mat, I can charge 4 Lumos Firefly lights at the same time! Check out the pictures below to see how it works.
Quad Charging Mat for Lumos Firefly lights, available as an add-on accessory.
Plug in a USB cable into the Quad Charging Mat, and insert up to 4 lights to be charged wirelessly, at the same time!
I think the Quad Charging Mat is well designed, as it looks good and packs well into a compact shape. Wirelessly charging 4x lights at one go is also super cool as well, as I only need to plug in 1 wire to the Quad Charging Mat, instead of 4 separate wires.
The Lumos Firefly lights are not differentiated by front (white) or rear (red) lights. Rather, each light is the same, and has the ability to output red or white light, depending on the setting and mode.
The outer ring of LEDs is red, while the center LED is white. Each can function as the front or rear light, and this can be changed easily using the app.
Another interesting accessory is the Handlebar End Mount for Lumos Firefly lights.
This is basically an adapter to allow the Lumos Firefly lights to be mounted to the ends of flat or drop handlebars, such that it faces rearwards. This improves side and rear visibility.
The Handlebar End Mount comes with two of the part shown on the left, for each side of the handlebar. The cradle (included with the light) shown on the right needs to be screwed onto the mount using 2 screws.
With the Handlebar End Mount attached to the rear of the cradle. Unfortunately this angle does not show the rear.
How it looks when fixed to the end of a drop bar.
Each of this Handlebar End Mount weighs 17 grams. Adding the weight of the light (30 grams), cradle (11 grams), gives a weight of 58 grams per side.
Top view of the light when mounted to the end of the drop bar. Angled at 45 degrees for both rear and side visibility. The rubber bit sticking out is for resting the bike against the wall.
Unfortunately it looks way too bulky and ugly! Intention is good but the implementation is not. The light itself is just too big to match the handlebar.
Sticks out quite a lot and extends the drop bar by almost 5 cm.
The light sticks out way too much and interferes with my knee when cycling. Unusable in this case.
I'm happy with the Quad Charging Mat, but the Handlebar End Mount is not usable for me.
What about the mounts; have you had any problems with the lights being knocked out from bumps?
ReplyDeleteNope, those magnets are really strong!
